Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015, Heung-Min Son, a South Korean international sensation, has won over the hearts of the Spurs supporters with some outstanding goal-scoring performances.
Sonny, who scored the first goals in the Premier League and Champions League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and earned the 2019–20 FIFA Puskas Award for his miraculous strike against Burnley in December 2019, keeps becoming better and better. The seasons of 2021–2022 were no different; in fact, Sonny kept raising the bar on his performance; his best-ever season total of 23 league goals earned him a share of the Premier League’s Golden Boot with Mo Salah.
Sonny’s new contract, which kept him at the Club until 2025, brought good news at the start of the season. Sonny also got things going against Manchester City as he intended to finish the game with the winning goal.
In the course of the 2021/22 season, Sonny became just the ninth player to reach 50 European appearances for us, passed 200 Premier League appearances, passed 300 games across all competitions for the Club, won the Premier League’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for October, broke the Premier League goal combinations record with Harry Kane (was 37, they are now on 41), won the Club’s August, February, March, and April Goal of the Month awards, and entered the top 100 in the Premier League
Son has won Player of the Season awards from One Hotspur, One Hotspur Juniors, and Official Supporters’ Clubs. He also scored twice in the second half of our final game against Norwich to help us clinch fourth place, a return to the UEFA Champions League, and the Golden Boot (23 goals) — he even met Spider-Man!
Son, who was raised in Chuncheon before moving to Germany as a child, made his Bundesliga debut for Hamburger SV in October 2010 against 1. FC Köln. He scored goals frequently during his tenure in Germany, and before joining Bayer Leverkusen in June 2013, he made 78 appearances and scored 20 goals for Hamburg. In his two seasons there, he assisted them in qualifying for the Champions League. He made a total of 87 appearances, scoring 29 goals at BayArena.
Sonny appeared in 45 of our 53 games throughout all competitions, contributed 24 goals, and ended 2021–22 with 325 appearances and 131 goals overall.
He scored twice on his home debut in a 3-1 Europa League victory against Qarabag after making his debut for us away at Sunderland in September 2015, then three days later, he scored the game’s lone goal as we defeated Palace 1-0 at White Hart Lane in the Premier League. He missed some time due to a foot injury, but he still managed to score eight goals in 40 games for us in 2015–16. His last-second strike against Watford in late December 2015 was one of his career high points.
Playing Style
Son is a skilled player who can fill in at any forward position, including winger, second striker, and striker. If necessary, he can also play as an attacking midfielder or wing-back. I don’t care where I play; the most important thing is that I’m in the game. I can play as a second striker or behind; whatever the coach says, I’ll do. I don’t have a favorite position; I’ll be wherever and always on the attack.
Son is renowned for his two-footedness, quickness, awareness of his surroundings, movement, close control, and clinical finishing, all of which contribute to his counterattack effectiveness. In addition, he has received accolades from teammates and the media for his selfless work ethic, defensive effort, and ability to assist teammates in addition to scoring goals on his own.
He has been regarded as one of the best players in the world in recent years, especially after his tremendous success with Tottenham. He is frequently referred to as the greatest Asian footballer of all time.
The Tottenham player has a wide range of skills. Although he is primarily a left-winger who can run the line or cut inside to shoot, he can also play behind the striker as a poacher up top, as a shadow-striker, or in a similar manner on the other flank.
