Aleksander Mitrovic is a striker for both the Serbian national team and Premier League club Fulham.
As the 2013 European Under-19 Championship’s best player, Mitrovi contributed to Serbia’s victory. He participated in his first senior national team game that year and has since amassed over 70 caps, including one for Serbia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He is Serbia’s leading scorer.
In the Europa League play-off round, Mitrovi scored a header against Tromso. Three days later, against Jagodina at home, he scored his first league goal. In his first-ever Eternal derby on November 17, 2012, Mitrovi scored the first goal as Partizan fell short 3-2. Five days later, he added another goal in the Europa League group stage away 1-1 tie with Neftchi Baku of Azerbaijan.
He was chosen for the Jelen SuperLiga Team of the Season as a result of his performances. Additionally, Mitrovi was ranked third among the top 25 players in the national league for that season by the Serbian sports website Mozzart Sport.
NewCastle United
He replaced Papiss Cissé for the final 15 minutes of Newcastle’s season-opening 2-2 draw with Southampton at St. James’ Park on August 9. 22 seconds into his debut, he fouled Matt Targett and received a booking.
Twenty days later, he was dismissed for a foul on Francis Coquelin in the 15th minute of a 1-0 loss against Arsenal at home.
On October 3 against Manchester City, Mitrovi scored his first goal for Newcastle, opening the scoring in a 6-1 defeat.
Fulham
Mitrovi joined Fulham in the Championship on a temporary basis on February 1st of this year.
In a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Mitrovi made his West London club debut. He nearly scored, but Joe Worrall cleared his headed attempt off the goal line. In a 1-1 tie with Bristol City, Mitrovi scored his first goal for the team, beginning a six-goal streak over the next four games. Mitrovi scored five goals in the six games Fulham played in April, including victories over Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland. He received the back-to-back Championship Player of the Month in March and April thanks to his strong run of play during those months.
The goal against Sunderland would prove to be Mitrovi’s final for the club in his loan spell, as he did not score in the play-offs but did start in the play-off final, which Fulham won 1-0 over Aston Villa. Mitrovi finished the season with 12 goals, four fewer than leading scorer Ryan Sessegnon, as Fulham missed out on automatic promotion on the final day, losing 3-1 to Birmingham City, their first league loss of the calendar year.
Mitrovi led the Serbian national under-19 squad in scoring during their victorious qualification run for the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Championship with four goals. He was dismissed during a match against France U19 on July 3, 2012, the first day of the championship event, which resulted in his suspension and forced him to sit out the remainder of the game. When Serbia’s U21 squad played Bulgaria U21 in a friendly on March 26, 2013, Mitrovi scored twice.
