Brazilian footballer Carlos Henrique Casimiro, better known by his stage name Casemiro, competes for both the Brazil national team and Premier League club Manchester United as a defensive midfielder. One of the best defensive midfielders in the world, he is highly recognized.
Originally from Sao Paulo, where he played 111 games in which he scored 11 goals, Casemiro transferred to Real Madrid in 2013 and also spent the 2014–15 season on loan at Porto.
He was a member of the Real Madrid group that, between 2014 and 2018, won four Champions League championships.
At Real Madrid, he won fifteen significant trophies in all, including three FIFA Club World Cups, one Copa del Rey, five Champions Leagues, and three La Liga championships. He left Real Madrid in 2022 and joined Manchester United.
Casemiro, who has played for Brazil on a full-time basis since 2011, participated in four Copa América tournaments, including the 2019 championship, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The holding midfielder, once a Real Castilla trialist, rose to prominence for Brazil’s national team nine years ago when he was still a relative unknown at the top level. Before joining Manchester United in August, Casemiro had won numerous championships while playing for Real Madrid, including three FIFA Club World Cups and five Champions Leagues.
The holding midfielder was chosen for Brazil’s friendlies in Asia in June, only a few days after Real Madrid’s historic Champions League campaign came to an end with a triumph against Liverpool in the final.
Tite had no intention of including any of the players who had competed in the Champions League final, but Casemiro’s extreme professionalism and great physical condition made him unable to do so.
Real Madrid and Manchester United declared on August 19, 2022, that they had reached an agreement for the transfer of Casemiro. He signed a four-year contract with the English team three days later, with an option for a fifth year.
According to reports, the acquisition cost £60 million plus an additional £10 million. He was introduced to the public at Old Trafford on the same day, just before Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1.
It was announced on August 26, 2022, that he will don the number 18 jersey that Bruno Fernandes had previously worn.
On August 27, 2022, the club won at Southampton, and Casemiro made his debut for the team when he entered as a substitute. On September 8, 2022, United lost 0-1 to Real Sociedad in the Europa League, and Casemiro made his debut for the club in Europe.
Playing Style
Casemiro does a fantastic job of breaking up plays and motivating his team to advance by executing short, deliberate passes in transition. He is essential to continuing successful attacks for both club and nation. He is not, however, merely one of the top names on Brazil’s roster because of his technical prowess.
While not particularly talented or skilled technically (although he was able to improve in this area under manager Zinedine Zidane during their time at Real Madrid together), Casemiro is an intelligent, physically strong, mobile, aggressive, and hard-tackling midfielder with a strong work ethic.
Casemiro typically plays as a defensive midfielder, but he has also been used in a box-to-box role in the center of the pitch or even as a center-back on occasion.
Also, while he is primarily known for his ability to give his teams balance by supporting his more offensive-minded teammates defensively and accurately distributing the ball to them after regaining possession, he is also a well-rounded midfielder with a powerful outside-the-box shot, reliable distribution, and the ability to get forward with his runs off the ball or start attacks with his passing.
