QATAR, World Cup – An unfortunate turn of events for France, Paul Pogba, a midfielder for Juventus and France, will undergo surgery for a knee injury he received in training this summer.
According to Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, Paul Pogba may not be able to play again until January owing to a knee injury that needs surgery, raising questions about the France midfielder’s readiness for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
After returning to Juventus from Manchester United this summer, Pogba made the decision to skip surgery once tearing his meniscus during training, but Allegri claimed that things had changed after he made an effort to resume training.
Before Tuesday’s Champions League match at Paris Saint-Germain, Allegri told reporters, “He trained for the second time this morning but then stopped, and it was then agreed that he undergo surgery. We will realistically get him back in January.”
The France World Cup defense starts in November, and Allegri expressed doubt about Pogba’s readiness, saying, “The World Cup is not my concern, Juventus’ worry is that he comes back in January.”
Pogba scored in the World Cup final, which France won against Croatia 4-2, and was a key player in France’s triumph. He has made 91 appearances for France and scored 11 goals.
In Group H of the Champions League, alongside Benfica and Maccabi Haifa, are Juventus and PSG. Allegri stated that PSG is one of the favorites for the title and that his team will need at least 10 points to advance to the knockout rounds.
“Tomorrow will be a terrific encounter, and we will undoubtedly aspire to play a great game from a technical point of view,” Allegri said. “We face an opponent who is among the strongest in Europe, who this year I count as a favourite for the final.”
