Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Ramses Becker, also known as Alisson, competes for both the Brazil national team and Premier League club Liverpool. Due to his distribution and one-on-one skills, he is recognized as one of the top goalkeepers in the world.
Since joining Liverpool in 2018, Alisson Becker has solidified his status as one of the most formidable goalkeepers in all of football.
He transferred from AS Roma to Anfield, where he played a crucial role in the 2019 and 2020 Champions League and Premier League victories.
The Brazilian, who began playing right away for Jürgen Klopp’s team while initially donning the No. 13 jersey, had an outstanding debut season on Merseyside.
Alisson created history by being the Reds’ first goalkeeper to win the Premier League Golden Glove award in more than ten years after playing every minute of the team’s domestic season and keeping 21 clean sheets on the way to a second-place finish with 97 points.
The goalkeeper also played a significant role in Liverpool’s sixth Champions League victory. With a critical late stop against Napoli on matchday six, he secured the Reds’ place in the knockout stages of the 2018–19 campaign.
Alisson proved to be unbreakable in the Madrid championship, making a number of saves to keep Tottenham Hotspur out as Klopp’s team prevailed 2-0.
After winning the Copa America that summer with his nation, he moved up from No. 13 to No. 1 at the beginning of the 2019–20 club season.
The goalkeeper missed the first two months of the new league season due to an injury, but he quickly got back to his usual self.
Alisson, a member of the squad that won the world championship in December 2019, recorded 13 clean sheets in 29 appearances to help Liverpool win the Premier League with a club-record 99 points.
On the opening weekend of the 2017–18 campaign, Roma’s 1-0 victory over Atalanta marked the Brazilian’s first Serie A appearance. He participated in his debut Derby della Capitale match in November, a 2-1 triumph against Lazio.
Roma’s performance in the Champions League, when the team advanced to the semifinals, was greatly aided by Alisson. In all competitions, the Brazilian had 22 clean sheets, including 17 in the league and five in the Champions League.
Prior to making his senior debut in a 3-1 victory over Venezuela in 2015, Alisson competed for Brazil’s U-17 and U-20 teams.
Brazil’s 23-man rosters for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2016 Copa America Centenario both included Alisson.
He is also well-known for his handling and adept at handling high balls, which allows him to come out and claim crosses and effectively control his area. Some consider Alisson to be the best goalkeeper in the world and the Premier League’s finest when faced with an opponent in a one-on-one situation. His statistics support this claim.
Playing Style
Alisson is regarded by some in the sport as the best goalkeeper in the world because of his talent for making significant saves, brilliance in one-on-one situations, positioning, distribution, and consistency. Alisson credits Manuel Neuer for his “sweeper keeper” technique and former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdés for his ability to play out from the back as sources of inspiration.
Furthermore, due to his distribution, Alisson is able to play the ball out from the back quickly with both his hands and feet.
He also has the ability to launch attacks or pick out midfielders with his long goal kicks. Alisson is also renowned for his speed and timing when rushing off his line, as well as his ability to clear or challenge for the ball with his feet outside the area, or get to the ground quickly to collect or parry the ball inside the box.
When under pressure, his adeptness with the ball in his hands and poise in control have even allowed him to occasionally challenge opponents.
Despite his massive, robust frame, strength, and height of 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in), he is a quick and athletic goalie. Alisson is known for his effective style of goalkeeping thanks to his anticipation, consistency, composure, intelligence, positional sense, and goalkeeping technique, which allows him to read the game, cover the goal well, and stop shots without having to use histrionics. He also possesses good reflexes and excellent shot-stopping abilities, as well as the capacity to produce spectacular and instinctive reaction saves when necessary.
