Mendy also preserved another clean sheet in the championship game to help Chelsea win their second championship, tying the record of nine for most clean sheets in a UEFA Champions League season. As the first African goalie in football history to win both trophies, he was also named UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year and The Best FIFA Goalkeeper of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mendy made his club debut on September 2020 against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup’s fourth-round match, which Chelsea lost 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gianluigi Donnarumma, the goalkeeper for Italy who saved two penalties in the Euro 2020 championship, won the Yashin Award, with Mendy coming in second.
