As of 2022, the Swiss Football Federation, which oversees the national team, has been representing Switzerland for almost 127 years. The group has worked hard to earn its current spot among the top national football teams since its creation.

The Swiss squad has historically drawn a lot of flak for its subpar performances. However, the team’s performance has improved dramatically since 2006, consistently qualifying for the World Cup.

Switzerland defeated Bulgaria 4-0 in the qualifiers to earn a spot in the World Cup 2022.

The Swiss team is not short of greats. Xherdan Shaqiri currently makes his living in the United States, although this has had no impact on his stature internationally. The Liverpool forward, who has now represented Switzerland in 106 matches, will be in Qatar.

Granit Xhaka, who has had a successful season with Arsenal, is another player who is certain to make the team. He too has now amassed three times as many international appearances after reaching 100 in March.

It would be an understatement to suggest that Yann Sommer is a dependable backstop. In addition to being a standout member of the Swiss team at the 2018 World Cup, the 33-year-old conceded just two goals in eight games while competing for Qatar 2022 TM.

The 33-year-old goalie Yann Sommer will give the Swiss team more experience. The 25-year-old striker Breel Embolo is anticipated to play a significant role despite the fact that several of Switzerland’s main players are in their 30s (or will be by the time the action begins).

Switzerland has been placed in a group that is equally as challenging as the one they were placed in four years ago in Russia, where they faced Brazil, Serbia, and Costa Rica. They came in second back then, but Sweden eliminated them in the Round of 16. They will once more face off against Brazil and Serbia in Qatar this November and December, and Cameroon will be their other group-stage team this time.

Switzerland has a great track record at the most recent World Cups, despite the fact that the team may have had difficulty getting past the Round of 16 obstacle. They have played 15 matches over the last four qualifying periods, losing only three of them within the allotted 90 minutes.

Switzerland has won 11 and drawn 8 of their previous 21 games. The only two losses throughout that span occurred against eventual champion Italy at UEFA EURO 2020 and against England in a March friendly. Unbeaten during the qualifying rounds for Qatar 2022, Switzerland forced Italy to settle for second place in the group.

Here is a list of some of Switzerland’s national football team’s trophies and awards.

1924 Summer Olympics Paris – silver medal

2002 UEFA under-17 winners

2009 FIFA under-17 World Cup winners

2011 UEFA EURO under-21 – second place

Although the senior Switzerland national football team has not lived up to expectations, the 2022 Qatar World Cup offers the squad an excellent opportunity to prove critics wrong.
